Hands-on first
We do not rank tools we have not used. For software and AI tools, that means running the same set of real tasks through each candidate: the same prompts, the same files, the same workflows. For hardware, it means daily use for at least a week before we form an opinion.
What we score
- Does it do the job? Core function quality comes before feature counts.
- What does free actually get you? We test the tier most readers will use, not the demo the vendor prefers.
- Friction. Setup time, learning curve, and how often the tool gets in your way.
- Trust. Pricing transparency, data handling, and export options if you ever want to leave.
Corrections and updates
Tools change fast. When a product materially changes its pricing or features, we update the article or note that it is under review. Spotted something outdated? Tell us through the contact page and we will check it.
