Situations on film: documenting the most dynamic forms of public art

Situations On Film is a short documentary film series that explores Situations projects – launching with Tony White’s Missorts and Anna Barriball’s Snowflakes.

Each 8-minute film describes how the project unfolded in a specific time and place with exclusive behind-the scenes in situ interviews with the artists, and commentaries from leading critics and writers such as The Culture Show’s Michael Smith and public participants.

The first of these films tracks the collaboration between novelist Tony White and musician, Jamie Telford, to conceive of an urban soundwork for Bristol. A permanent public artwork for the city, Missorts combines ten location-triggered fictional stories by ten writers set to a newly composed soundtrack immersing listeners in a surprising, new experience of the city.

We hope that the series will offer the first insight into the most dynamic forms of public art to emerge in recent years and that you’ll enjoy watching and sharing them as much as we’ve enjoyed producing them.
